MaryMoor Park in Redmond WA

Marymoor Park Late Afternoon

Marymoor Park Late Afternoon

Marymoor Park in Redmond WA is the heart of Seattle’s Eastside. This park gives visitors the best of small town Washington, packed in a happy 640 acres. Marymoor plays out something for all Eastsiders: Summer concerts, outdoor movies, a bicycle velodrome, a rowing club, sports fields, climbing walls, an off-leash dog park, and a bike trail that goes all the way to the big city.  Read the details about Marymoor, my fave Seattle area park.  I think you’ll love this place, too.

Free Museums around the US

Hey kids,

Check this out!  I was on the non-consumer gal’s website and ”Alunachic”  posted this comment

I remembered Bank of America has an offer for free museum admission by showing your debit card. I’m not sure where you bank, but a quick check revealed several museums with free admission via Bof A debit card.

Here’s the link for Bank of America Museums.  Seattle WA has:

  • Museum of History and Industry (in the Montlake District, near UW).
  • Wing Luke Asian Museum (The ID – International District), a cool little spot, which you would drive right past if you weren’t looking for it.
  • Northwest African American Museum (I’ve never been there.  Check it out.)

These places are free on the first full weekend of every month.  You need a B/of/A  piece of ID.  Thanks Alunachic.

Wow, I just checked NYC.  MOMA’s on the list.  I love this.  And, the Whitney.  I need to make sure my next trip to the East Coast is the right weekend.  Maybe, I should look at LA, too.  I go there from time to time to see my daughter.

I Want my Pals to Know about Free Movies

Cheap is good.  Free is better.  Check out the Marymoor Outdoor Movies.

The suggested price is $5.00, but you don’t have to pay it.  So, it’s free for people like me (and you).  Check out these movies at Marymoor Park in Redmond WA.

By the way, I think that a lot of my taxes go to support the King County Parks, I want all of you to get MY money’s worth!

Where are the best Seattle Parks by the water?   I’ve lived in Seattle all my life (with some time out: Waikiki & So Cal).  I would never steer you wrong.

Tourists and Newbies need my quickie map of Seattle Parks by the water. Go to the article to see the approximate locations of Myrtle Edwards, Alki Beach, Gas Works Park, Magnuson Park, and Green Lake. Seattle has tons of waterside parks, but these are easy to find and worth the extra effort.  Rock on.

Redmond’s Farrel McWhirter Park & Pony Party

Cool Cow at Farrel Mcwhirter

Farrel McWhirter is one of the best Redmond parks, because it is a mini farm, and it’s just the right size for parents and kids. This Eastside Seattle park has some truly adorable farm animals. It’s a petting zoo or a pony party for big birthday children.

These friendly animals are not worn out by the mobs; they are happy to see kids and let the kids see them. Visitors are not allowed to feed the critters, but some animals like to be petted.  Read more about: Farrel-McWhirter Park and Pony Parties.

Indian Words Like Sammamish or Tulalip

“Location. Location. Location.” No. In Seattle it’s, “Pronunciation. Pronunciation. Pronunciation.” Seattle Newbies have difficulty with the pronunciation of words like Snoqualmie and Sammamish because they didn’t grow up hearing the names.

No one visiting Seattle for the first time would ever guess how the tongue-twister, Puyallup, should sound. Even simple names can be mangled, but the following words are used often by Seattleites:

Read Puyallup, Sammamish, Tulalip to find out why these words are used everyday in the Northwest.  (This is a photo of Snoqualmie Falls.  From Seattle, go to I-90, cross Lake Washington and keep going east about 25 miles (or less).

Most Seattle locals can’t afford spendy restaurants for their seafood fix. They go to Ivars Salmon House, Ivars Fish Bar, Chinook’s, or Spud’s. The good news, for people on a Seattle vacation, is that the best cheap seafood restaurants in Seattle WA are also on (or nearby) the water.

Mount Rainier Lodges… Paradise Inn or Longmire?

Sunrise Day Lodge (it doesn't have overnighters anymore)

Sunrise Day Lodge (it doesn't have overnighters anymore)

Mount Rainier National Park lodging includes two very different historic hotels. Paradise Inn sits higher up the mountain, among alpine meadows as beautiful as anything in Switzerland. National Park Inn at Longmire lies nestled thousands of feet below, within a deep old growth forest. Both locations are as spiritual and beautiful as any on earth, but each has its own innate qualities.

Well…. I’ve stayed at both Paradise Inn & National Park Inn (Longmire) and I can’t tell you which one is better.  One is down low and one is way up in the mountains where you’re going to want to yodel.  Actually, I even stayed at Sunrise Lodge, but it’s no longer open for overnighters.  Weird.
